Will Yisrael Beiteinu Leave the Govt?

At a Yisrael Beiteinu faction meeting on Monday, Lieberman made his case for quitting the coalition.

Party Leader Lieberman said the government has crossed the red lines Yisrael Beiteinu set for itself, seemingly leaving the party no choice but to leave.

However, he asked faction members to refrain from engaging in media discussions until after his meeting with Olmert on Tuesday, where he will request clarifications about the negotiations and the government's plans to evacuate so-called "illegal outposts".

At a Tuesday evening party secretariat meeting Lieberman will report on his meeting with Olmert to allow for discussion of how to proceed. On Wednesday, he plans to call a press conference to announce the decision.

Those close to Lieberman were told Monday that the start of negotiations on the core issues is a "casus belli." Furthermore, Lieberman told them that Olmert's declared intent to evacuate outposts and weaken the criteria for releasing Arab security prisoners are also "troubling."

Speculation continues while Olmert scrambles to "up the ante" for Shas and UTJ to entice them into the coalition.
